FAQ

Where is your office located?

My office address is:

210 25th Avenue N, Suite 700
Nashville, TN 37203

What are your office hours?
I am available by appointment from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
How long is each session?

The initial session is two hours long, so we can get to know each other. All subsequent sessions are 50 minutes long.

The sessions for couples are 90 minutes.

How do I get started?

Please email me through my website for a free 15-minute consultation by clicking here.

For an entire appointment, call my scheduler/office assistant at (559) 901-4732. She will schedule you and send all the necessary intake documentation that you must complete before the first session.

What is your cancellation policy?

I have a firm 24-hour cancellation policy. You may cancel for free up to 24 hours before your scheduled appointment. If you cancel after 24 hours of your appointment, you will pay a fee of $75.

I charge No-Shows the full fee for missed appointments. However, you will receive both an email and a text reminder, so there shouldn’t be any missed appointments.

Who is your ideal client?

I see individuals over 18 and couples.

My clients have a history of trauma, have come to see that living with the trauma isn’t working anymore, and are highly motivated to make changes.

What is trauma?

Trauma can be many things. It varies from single traumatic experiences or witnessing a traumatic experience to childhood and attachment trauma, domestic violence, and even grief and loss.

Trauma is different for everyone. What is traumatic for one person may not be traumatic for another. Trauma is that which sticks with you. It affects your body’s reactions and comes out in everyday situations whether you do or don’t intend it.

You may not recognize trauma at first until life suddenly becomes unfocused and unmanageable.

Do I have to talk in therapy?

If you DON’T want to talk about it, I’m the therapist for you!

With a cutting-edge brain-based intervention called Brainspotting (see Services/Specialties page), you can either silently process aloud or remain completely silent. Many prefer not to say a thing. That’s okay. Your brain will process and heal either way.

What is your approach to treating my trauma?

My go-to is Brainspotting (see Services/Specialties for how it works). I also include polyvagal concepts focusing on the nervous system and the interaction between the brain and body.

For those with childhood trauma, I bring in Internal Family Systems Therapy. Have you seen the movie “Inside Out”? It emphasizes IFS and the idea that we all have parts.

I focus on Imago Relationship Therapy for couples. In therapy, you will learn to dialog, allowing you to listen to each other without judgment. You will learn more about yourself and your partner than seemed possible.

How long will I be in therapy?

I’m happy to say you won’t be paying me forever. We will make a list of your traumatic experiences. Once we’ve processed each, you are good to go!

Typically, this takes six months to a year, though some who almost daily accumulate trauma on the job may need to return for refresher sessions.

What if disturbing thoughts come up at home following a session?
CALL OR TEXT ME! I’ll help you return to your Window of Tolerance. Never suffer alone.
What is therapy like with you?

Previous clients describe it as a colorful experience, alternating between light activity and deep processing. I use a location in the room to help you feel comfortable. We’ll use whatever color of pen appeals to you and whatever texture and color of rock will best allow you to process safely.

Curious? See for yourself.

What are your strengths as a therapist?

I’m genuine, personable, and honest. I will never be fake with you. I promise that what you see is what you get. You will never be a number to me.

I know my stuff and am confident that it works. I know how to teach it and make it real for you. I’ve seen positive results again and again and again.

Also, I plain love what I do. I love people and seeing them grow, change, and heal.

How do you know what I’m going through? Have you ever had therapy?
Yes, I have had therapy. I experienced my dark trauma, and others told me that I had no hope. But therapy helped. Now, I’m the therapist. I showed them!
I’m a First Responder. Are you IA?
NO! I’m here for you and your colleagues.
Do you have it all together?
I wish I did. Despite my education and experience, I’m growing and learning like you. Often, therapy is a two-way street. I learn a lot from you, too.
Color or black and white?
Color! Too often, our lives become black and white and two-dimensional. Color brings back life and adds dimension to our existence.
Why do you have a cat?
I love both cats and dogs. My husband does not. So, we have a cat.
